The store is located on the ground floor of the historic Higgins Building. Completed in 1910, it originally contained a privately operated power plant in the basement that supplied electricity for two square blocks. Legendary attorney Clarence Darrow kept offices there when he defended two brothers accused of blowing up the nearby Los Angeles Times Building during a union dispute. (He lost.) Today, the Higgins Building houses the famous Edison Bar and has rightfully been designated a historical monument.
