Black Lives Matter
Author | groundwork coffee Date | June 10, 2020
Last week we stated that we stand with those who fight against social injustice and support #BlackLivesMatter. We realize that is the minimum.
As a coffee company, our business is predicated on the labor of Black and Brown people around the globe who produce our coffee, and for the past thirty years we have committed ourselves to supporting our coffee growing partners at origin.
As a member of the Los Angeles and Portland communities, we are committed to supporting equality, justice, and progress locally as well.
In June we will be donating a portion of our cafe sales and 100% of our Angel City Blend online sales to the ACLU to support their work for racial justice. We have also made donations to the People's City Council Freedom Fund to help assist with bail for Los Angeles protesters, and a separate contribution to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. We don’t plan to make these donations as one-time gifts. We intend to establish an on-going relationship of support.
This is just the beginning.
Self-assessment isn’t always fun. But we are dedicated to becoming the best version of ourselves that we can be. In the coming weeks we will be opening conversations with our teams to better understand how we are doing today and how we can improve. We will also be exploring how we can support and partner with Black-owned businesses in our communities.
We exist to serve you, our customer, and we'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions via email at community@groundworkcoffee.
Matter is the minimum. We stand by our employees, customers, and community in this fight to end oppression and advocate for racial justice from the ground up.
