Originating from Mount Elgon, once the tallest mountain in Africa, the Sipi Falls are one of the most beautiful landmarks in Uganda. The steep slopes and cooler weather make this a perfect growing climate for coffee, including our Bugisu Sipi Falls Project Single Origin
The Sipi Falls Coffee Project started as an initiative by Kawacom, an exporter, in 1999. Today it incorporates over 5,000 small-holder farmers covering an area of over 2,000 hectares. Kawacom provides training, young trees, and other services to help improve agronomic practices higher quality coffee and higher quantity yields.
Although Uganda is the 7th largest coffee producer in the world, the bulk of the coffee produced in the country is done so by small farms averaging in size between 1.25 and 6 acres. An estimated 20% of Uganda's population earns all or a large part of their income from coffee.
We are proud to partner with the Sipi Falls Project, currently the only certified organic coffee from Uganda. Through our direct trade relationship we know that profits from the coffee are being returned to the community to strengthen growing practices and provide for grower families.
