Just outside Menoza, Peru in the Amazonas region is Alfonso Tejeda and Karim Rosario Araoz's Timbuyacu coffee farm. The lush valley used to be underwater. You may find marine fossils if you look hard enough.
Timbuyacu, a Quechua word, meaning "water source" refers to the groundwater spring present on the land, which belonged to Alfonso’s grandmother. The area is planted with 19 hectaces of coffee, most shaded in guava trees. From here we sourced our newest Seasonal Select, Peru Timbuyacu.
Alfonso and Karim began cultivating coffee here in 2010 in order to better understand the realities of the producers they were buying from. As owners of their own exporting business, Cafe Monte Verde, they have worked since 2003 to raise the quality and visibility of coffee in the Mendoza area of northern Peru. Their Timbuyacu farm is now meticulously planted with 19 hectares of coffee and 15 additional hectares Alfonso has deemed “reserve.”
This washed light roast has a sweet acidity and notes of Plum, Cane Sugar, Cotton Candy. Available in our online store for a limited time.
