Sumatra - Takengon Ika - Junus Family Farms
Author | groundwork coffee Date | May 23, 2017
Background: This coffee is sourced from the family-run Jagong Mill and the surrounding farms (owned by Irham Junis, his son Andi, and Daugnter Ina), located in the Takengon and Atu Lintang coffee region on the Aceh province in Sumatra. Their attention to detail in picking and processing is something truly unique in Sumatra. By controlling the whole process from tree to mill to export, they are able to avoid the long and oftentimes convoluted supply lines that can plague and compromise the quality of coffee from the island.
We are very proud to be carrying this coffee in conjunction with our friends at Royal coffee, and we are happy to support small farmers doing great work and focusing on quality, as the Junis family has demonstrated.
When we tasted this coffee, it stood out to us for its classic Sumatran profile: Notes of cedar, pipe tobacco, and ruby red grapefruit, with a creamy texture and a clean and sweet aftertaste.
In the Cup: Bittersweet chocolate, cedar, pipe tobacco, grapefruit, scotch whisky
