Save food waste and money by using this app at our Rose Ave. and Traction Ave. cafes

As a closing barista at Groundwork, it irked me to see all the leftover pastries at the end of the day. Baristas and kitchen staff sometimes took the extras home, but we can only eat so many muffins and croissants before we never want to look at one ever again. Suffice it to say, we couldn’t wait to launch the food waste app Too Good To Go (TGTG) to solve this problem once and for all.

Groundwork, like most cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores, have perfectly delicious food that goes to waste every day simply because it isn’t sold in time. The TGTG app makes it easy for participating businesses and customers to fight food waste. TGTG allows customers to save Surprise Bags of food at a price that’s usually about ⅓ of the original cost. As a frequent user of the TGTG app, I can tell you that it’s super easy and a great deal.

TGTG expanded to Los Angeles in 2022, and Groundwork is one of LA’s latest cafes to join the nearly 10,800 businesses using the app to sell surplus food to 5 million app users. In 2021, over 52 million meals were saved globally through TGTG!

Mikey Robledo, the manager of our Rose Ave. location, explains how you can save food waste at Rose and the Traction Ave. location in Downtown LA: Customers just have to download the app (make sure to “favorite” Groundwork!) and check for Surprise Bags starting at 3:30 pm every day. Reserve and pay for a bag on the app, and pick it up between 3:30 and 4 pm. For only $4.99, you’ll receive $15 worth of pastries. Our pastries are made in-house daily, and some are gluten-free and vegan. Customers can expect croissants, muffins, scones, cookies, sliced loaves, and/or seasonal pastries.

“Too Good To Go has been doing really well here at Rose. It's such a great concept for us including helping with our daily waste. It also gives guests who've come by a chance to try out product they've never had before.” Mikey says. “I've come across some new clientele who haven't tried our cafe and are excited to try something new for themselves.”
