DIY: Cold Brew Concentrate

Calling all Home Baristas! At Groundwork, we love cold brew. Our Certified Organic Cold Brew Coffee is steeped for a full 24 hours for optimal flavor and made without additives or preservatives. But we know sometimes it's more fun to make your favorite products yourself and to customize them to your tastes. That's why we're breaking down how to make delicious and refreshing cold brew concentrate at home. With just coffee, water, something to filter and a little patience, you'll be sipping on your own cold brew in no time.

You'll need:

You can make as much or as little cold brew concentrate as you like but, be sure to stay consistent with the coffee to water ratio. We recommend 1:4. That's 1 ounce of coffee per 4 ounces of water. For example, 10 ounces of ground coffee and 40 ounces (5 cups) of water.

How to Make it:

  1. Combine the ground coffee and water in a wide mouth pitcher, jug or other container
  2. Stir to combine.
  3. Let sit for 5 minutes and stir again to ensure the water is well distributed.
  4. Cover your container and refrigerate for 12-18 hours
  5. When it's time to strain, put your filter or cheese cloth over a measuring cup or other container and pour the concentrate through. Let it rest for 10-20 minutes to let the last of your cold brew trickle through.
  6. Mix 4 ounces of your cold brew concentrate with 4 ounces of water and/or milk and serve over ice for a satisfying coffee beverage any time of year.
  7. Store extra concentrate in a sealed container for up to a week in the fridge.

It's as simple as that! If you're looking to step up your game, consider our Cold Brew Starter Kit with all the tools.
