In the Cup: Raisins, dates, brown sugar, cola
Bugisu is the name of the tribe that farms the mountain, and Bugisu is now the name applied to the coffee they grow in Eastern Uganda. The Sipi Falls Project began in 1999 as a model of coffee farmer reeducation and innovation for the 5,000 small landholders in the area. The whole family helps to pick the red cherries and dries them in the sun before transporting them for sale on donkeys, bicycles, or baskets placed on the head. Today the project reaches 6,900 farmers certified to the organic (EU, NOP), UTZ, and Rainforest Alliance standards.
