Can you give a brief introduction about the artwork you created?

This work is all about the coffee flower. I never knew until this project that there is one type of flower. That’s wild to me. How amazing is that? This one thing can yield so much. Arabica flowers also pollinate themselves! To quote Jurassic Park, “Life finds a way”. So the artwork we created was a sort of shrine to the great powers of the coffee flower.

How does coffee play a role in your life as an artist?

Coffee was the first thing I started drinking that made me feel like an artist. Coffee and art are two things that were meant to be together. I never drink coffee when I’m actually making the work because I need a steady hand instead I drink it during the ideation phase. I love sketching and having a cup of coffee because it gets the ideas flowing.

What would you want people to feel when experiencing your artwork?

Wow, this is a tough one. Mainly with this piece I hope that they appreciate the coffee flower and all it’s beauty. People have their rituals around coffee and it can almost feel religious so I’d want them to sort of feel that with this piece. Worship it, thank it, be patient with it, and enjoy the heck out of it.
